As many of you may be aware, our AI app, which used to update trend snapshots four times a day, leverages Twitter's API. Twitter's API, with its real-time data, is a valuable resource for developers, researchers, and AI enthusiasts alike. This open accessibility has been the cornerstone of various innovative projects and studies worldwide, including our own.
However, recently Twitter enforced new rate limits on its free tier API v2, and the changes have impacted us, along with many other developers and researchers. The new policy restricts the frequency with which we can update our trend snapshots, thereby limiting the capabilities of our AI.
To clarify, we do have the means to subscribe to their basic tier for $100 a month. Yet, it's not a matter of affordability, but one of principle and commitment to the developer community. We consider this as an issue worth discussing in a broader perspective, as it influences not only our project but also the overall accessibility of public data.
However, we are far from being set back. On the contrary, we're spurred on. This change is a reminder that our journey to democratize information access isn't without hurdles, and we're ready to take them on. Currently, we are exploring alternatives and developing strategies to counter these restrictions.
At the same time, we hope this event will foster a larger conversation about data accessibility, fairness, and the challenges that can arise in our increasingly data-driven world.
